Since it was formed in 1973, the BBC Midland Radio Orchestra has achieved great status in the world of popular music. The Orchestra now contributes some seventy tunes every week to Radio Two prgrammes. As well as having its own Saturday evening programme, the M.R.O. can be heard seven days a week somewhere on Radio Two. On this, the Orchestra's fourth L.P., under the expert musical direction of its resident conductor, norriw paramor, our attention is focused on the cinema and some of the great music that has been composed for the 'big' screen. The M.R.O. brings its own style to fourteen favourite themes that cover twenty years or so of movie-making. "Secret Love" which featured in the film "Calamity Jane" takes us back to 1953. The theme "Love Said Goodbye" from "Godfathe II" brings us right up to date, to 1975. Westerns, gangsters, musical comedies, detechive thrillers are represented. Included on the record is "The Frightened City" which Norrie composed for the film of the same name in 1961. The Orchestra also plays "More Than Ever Now", the haunting theme from the 1971 film "The Railway Children", composed by John Douglas. John has been responsible for many of the M.R.O.'s superb orchestrations that are fun to playand so popular with Radio Two listeners. We hope that you will find enjoyment in listening to this, the Orchestr'a latest offering. It is the kind of music that you can hear from Norrie Paramor and the Midland Radio Orchestra, as we said, any day of the week, somewhere on Radio Two. David Welsby BBC Birmingham | ||

Sometimes written as BBC Enterprise Ltd. The items shown here are from the "main" BBC Records and Tapes library covering a wide secletion of genres from themes, comedy dramas and others, depending on which format you have selected. |
